Shot a 45 on front and 44 on back for an 89. Reflecting on what I did well, I drove the ball well on all but one hole. 1st tee, smacked the ball into the middle of the fairway up the hill. Hit my second shot shot of the green in the first cut rough 30 yards short of the green. Tried to pitch and roll with my 8 iron. The grass near the green was wetter than I realized. Three putted for a bogey.
Hole two, I hit my 7 iron flag high and again, my pitch and roll was short. I bogeyed this par 3. Hole 4 I hit my drive to the right of the fairway behind the pine tree and hedge. Second shot found the right side bunker. Fluffy sand. Two shots out on green hitting 5 and give me for double bogey! 6 is a dogleg right. Hit my 6 iron off tee to carry the cart path right side of the fairway. 2 shot carried the water hazard sand trap got me. Yup, took 2 strokes to get out. Hole Number 8, I pulled my lead shoulder into the downswing and topped the ball. I settled down on the next drive on #10 and hit the ball on the left of the fairway. The best hole was number 6. I drive the water right side near the cart path. My second shot rolled just short of the green on the edge of the right side bunker. I used an 8 iron to pitch and roll the ball into the cup for a birdie three. Boogied number 7 and doubled 8. Parred 9. Parred 10 with a huge drive and pitching wedge 20 past the flag on the green. Two putted. Hit a good straight drive on 11 and pitched and rolled my second shot short of the green. I need to work on my wedges for winter grass. Pitch and roll is real hard to judge due to dormant grass conditions. On the green in three and two Putted. Bogie. 12, long par 5, was Ok when I hit my drive well. I used a 3 wood on the second shot and topped the ball. Duff. Came Out of my swing standing up came Over the top! Third shot 3 wood, opened the club face and sliced it into think pine straw just inbounds right of the cart path and pine trees. Pitch and roll short due to poor execution of preshot and wrong club choice. On the green in 5 and two put for double. Hit the ball Well off the tee on 13. Dogleg left over a pond. “What pond!” Drove to the cart path in middle of fairway. Perfect location. Pitching wedge was short of green. Hit it straight but not enough distance with swing. Right club, just didn’t hit it enough. I’ve been in the relatively same location and flew that green. Flying 13th green is trouble because woods behind the green is guaranteed lost ball! Bogeyed that one. 14 is short par 3 over water. Hit my 7 iron up on the second level of the green right of the flag. My missed with my 7 iron were right all day. Need to work on that. Parred with two put. 15, I pulled my driver tee shot left of fairway. The tee is small and needs work. I need to work on shaping my drive for a draw to score well on #15’s dogleg left layout. Or layup with a 3 hybrid. Bogey hole. 16 is a blind dogleg left. I hit into the trees on the left from the tee. I hit a 7 iron. My shot thought was to carry the bunker but hooked it left. Strike had good loft, but swung on wrong club-path. Second shot into middle Of fairway. Third carried hazard and beyond flag in line. Good shot. Two putted for bogey. 17 I hit a great tee shot on left of fairway under the large oak just short of the sandy patch under the tree. 6 iron into the bunker just left of the green. I took two strokes to get out of that sand. It was the third hole of the day I took two strokes to exit the beach. So, take away- sand is now being raked. The sand is fluffy now! Practice hitting properly behind the ball with a full swing not a prissy picking swing like when the sand is hard packed.
